Semantic satiation, TomTatos and more fun stuff in the filaments today, including non-sports related stuff. And some sports related stuff. Just lots of stuff, in no particular order.

Appreciating Starlin Castro

The other day I exchanged tweets with John Arguello of Cub’s Den and suggested that Starlin Castro is this generation’s Shawon Dunston. Continue reading

Nola’s Having a Good Time

The Saints are 3-0 and Nola has never seen them lose a regular season game. Let’s keep this up. Here are a few thoughts on the game.

Looking Backward & Forward (At the Same Time)

Man, remember those heady days of April, back when I was, like, blogging all the time (and stuff)? Well, you know, life happens (and stuff), but here I am trying to get back on the ball. Let’s give this thing a whirl… Continue reading

So, What’s Good?

4-8 ain’t great.

Not much has gone right so far this season, but we can’t get bogged down by the misery. Here are some things that have actually gone right. And some silver linings to things that haven’t. Continue reading

It’s a Two Way Street, People

Cubs Home Opener Makes Monday Tolerable

UPDATE:

Two out of three’s not bad? Edwin Jackson had a miserable first inning, giving up four runs, and another run in the second inning before settling down and getting through six. Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless, if, um, exciting, inning, as did Michael Bowden, but Shawn Camp gave up 2 runs in relief of Jackson.

The offense showed a little life, with two hits apiece by Castro, Soriano, Shierholtz and the #Beef, but once again this is a team operating with three absolute black holes of offense at CF, 2B and 3B and Anthony Rizzo is dangerously close to the event horizon (though I have extreme confidence in Rizzo to turn it around, as well as DeJesus). I just hope it doesn’t turn into one of those things where only half the lineup hits on any given day.

If only the Cubs could have a home opener every Monday the week would start off on such a better foot. Six games into the 2013 season the Cubs are 2-4 after falling three straight in Atlanta. Both wins came on days I bothered to do a post about what I would like to see during the game, so let’s see if I’m magic or not. Because, what I’d really like to see is a win. Continue reading

#SoWizards

Brad Beal out with stress fracture in his right leg. Yuck. Well, plenty of time for rehab and hopefully he comes back strong next year. So, does this mean the race to ninth place is in jeopardy?
