Much more so than professional sports, in college rosters are in a constant state of flux from year to year. This is, of course, because of the built-in four (sometimes five) year elibibility limit that players have, addition to transfers and early draftees. Because of this structure, recruiting is one of the most important functions of a college coaching staff. Depending on who you ask, some will tell you it’s better to be a mediocre coaches and great recruiter than the other way around. Though I suspect there are actually very few who meet that definition (but, just in case, I’m looking at you, Les Miles).
I bring this up because I was researching a different topic and came across a list of 2018 Towson baseball commitments, and then another (you may have to sort those pages by year to see the current lists). I have no idea how Matt Tyner and his staff fit it in, but they have obviously been hard at work. Somehow, while coaching the current team, working on improving facilities, engaging in fundraising, and community engagement, Tyner and his staff have been identifying and courting the next crop of Tigers players. It appears to be work well done, as what they have so far includes some promising prospects who fill some obvious niches in the Towson roster. The future does appear to be getting brighter.
This page will be updated periodically with players who have committed to Towson this year. In ways, it’s easier to get info on some of these players – for current Tigers most of the scouting reports I can find are from their high school days, so for these guys the info is actually more current – so I will include what I can find about their abilities and projections. At least for now, I will start by grouping these players by listed primary position, starting with a particular area of need for the Tigers next year.
Left-handed Pitcher
I am breaking pitchers into left- and right-handed groups, because sometimes it seems like these are two separate positions. Also because the only lefty on the Tigers right now is senior David Marriggi and the first group of commits that I found included three left-handed high school pitchers.

Nick Collier | 6′ 2″ 180 lbs |
John Carroll Street, MD |
Collier has been getting some press recently thanks to a complete game no-hitter he threw in his last start versus previously undefeated Archbishop Curley, including 14 strikeouts. The start before he struck out 12 (or 9, depending on the source) against highly-regarded Calvert Hall. Collier is one to look forward to next year. UPDATE 5/18: Collier has struck out 81 in 48.2 innings. He has given up 27 walks and 27 hits, allowing opponents to bat .154 off of him. |
Sean Kelby | 6′ 5″ 185 lbs |
Newark Charter Neward, DE |
Kelby is the first male athlete from Newark Charter to sign with a D-1 team, which is a very cool factoid for the young man. So far he has struck out 45 in 26 innings. He features a mid-80’s fastball and mid-70’s curve and change-up, but given his frame there is certainly some projectability. |
Cam Mason | 6′ 0″ 215 lbs |
Apex Cary, NC |
Mason just pitched a complete game 4-hitter for Apex High School in the North Carolina 4-A baseball playoffs. |
Sayo Kintunde | 6′ 5″ 200 lbs |
Pautuxent, MD | A 6′ 5″ lefty who’s already throwing in the low 90’s. Oh, yes, please. 07/02/2018 UPDATE: Kintunde is also a dynamic outfielder who hit .414 this year. In fact, he made the 2018 Spring All-Met first team and USA Today All-USA Maryland first team as an outfielder. |
Right-handed Pitcher

Dallas Repine | 6′ 7″ 190 lbs |
James M. Bennett HS, MD | Repine is a very tall right-hander. Usually that means some patience will be needed as he learns to repeat his delivery, but that height offers some obvious advantages in terms of pitching plane. Repine is coming off of an injury after his junior year of high school and throws an 88-90 mph fastball with a 77 mph curve. He played on the Mid-Atlantic Shockers club team with fellow Towson commit Javon Fields. |
Catcher
Name | Ht/Wt | HS/Hometown | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Peyton Myers | 6′ 1″ 195 lbs |
McDonough HS, MD | Bats/Throws: R/R Myers has a great video on YouTube showing off what looks like an excellent throwing arm and defensive skills. The swing is simple and looks to have decent bat speed. |
Trent Gast-Woodard | 6′ 2″ 190 lbs |
Archbishop Curley, MD | Bats/Throws: R/R At team captain (always good to see from a catcher), Gast-Woodard is slashing .333/.437/.643 with 6 home runs. |
Andrew Smith | 6′ 1″ 185 lbs |
Parkside HS Parsonburg, MD |
Bats/Throws: L/R Bayside Conference First Team selection both his sophomore and junior seasons, Smith also pitched for his high school team, but is primarily a catcher. Currently hitting .400 as a senior. |
Burke Camper | 6′ 0″ 187 lbs |
Hampton HS Allison Park, PA |
Bats/Throws: R/R Camper is a ways away as a 2019 high school graduate, but he has committed to Towson. Like Peyton Myers, Camper has a video on YouTube showing off his defensive skills, which look good for a young player. The bat speed looks decent, too. |
First Base

Zac Heisler | 6′ 3″ 205 lbs |
Pine Creek HS, CO | Bats/Throws: R/L Heisler looks like a great signing, or maybe it’s just because I can find stats for him. Still, he’s hitting .417/.500/.875 with 5 homers and more walks than strikeouts in 60 ABs. |
Outfield
Name | Ht/Wt | HS/Hometown | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Javon Fields | 6′ 0″ 175 lbs |
Appoquinimink Bear, DE |
Bats/Throws: R/R Fields is having an excellent senior season, hitting .333/.443/.568 at the time of this writing. |
Isaiah Winikur | 6′ 0″ 170 lbs |
The Haverford School Wynnewood, PA |
Bats/Throws: R/R |
Nick Brown | 6′ 2″ 210 lbs |
Archbishop Curley, MD | Bats/Throws: R/R Also plays first base. Brown is having an excellent senior year for the #3 high school in Maryland, hitting .337/.429.573 with 4 home runs. In 105 at bats he struck out and walked 12 times each. |
Travis Dowden | 6′ 1″ 180 lbs |
Central HS, Greenwell Springs, LA |
Bats/Throws: L/L A signing from my homestate, Dowden just won a state championship. Central was ranked #42 nationally by MaxPreps, so he likely performed against excellent competition. At last check was hitting .333 with three homers and 19 RBI. |
Danny Madden* | 6′ 2″ 210 lbs |
Polk State College Corning, NY |
Bats/Throws: L/L This is an interesting listing. I’ve found two sites (here and here) that list Madden as an outfielder, but at Polk State College and, before that, St. Bonaventure University, Madden was a pitcher. Even looking into his high school career, it appears that he was primarily known as a pitcher. I’ll monitor the situation and update this page as necessary. |
